A recent work has me exploring familiar themes: family, memory, loss, love, connectedness, fragility, strength. A found trinket (the “W” charm) strung on a wire, forms a new type of jewelry/embellishment. My grandmother holds her first child, my father, who will be killed by live wire on a utility pole in 1957. An incandescent light bulb’s package is flayed to retroactively protect all that rests on it. A label backing is yellow and faded, having lost its grip and its use. I turn to these types of tactile ingredients again and again to reassemble my understanding.
